A Navigating Change workshop was held at Tutu's House in Waimea for educators interested in learning about the Northwest Hawaiian Islands (NWHI) and the Hokule`a's voyage to these "kupuna" islands. The workshop was conducted by the Navigating Change Educational Partnership, which includes the Polynesian Voyaging Society, Bishop Museum, US Fish and Wildlife Service and the UH-Manoa, among other organizations. Twenty-two attendees were introduced to 4th-5th grade curriculum built around Hokule`a's voyage to NWHI and received copies of A Teacher's Guide to Navigating Change, DVDs, hands-on lessons and much more. The second day took place among the voyaging canoes Makali`i, Maisu and Hokulea from out of Na Kalai Wa`a Moku o Hawaii's halau wa`a at Kawaihae Harbor. | |||||||||||
