Throngs of people showed up for the Journey Through the Universe Family Science Day at the Prince Kuhio Plaza in Hilo, Hawaii. A special Hawaiian opening ceremony preceded science presentations by Dr Tim Livengood of the Challenger Center. Exhibits from many Mauna Kea Observatories, public schools, police and fire departments, UH Hilo, the Mauna Kea Visitor Information Station and Mauna Kea Astronomy Education Center and many more were featured.

Dan Birchall, Karl Yamamoto and Shane Jacobson manning the cryogenic demonstration booth of the UH Institute for Astronomy (IfA). There were folks lining up 3 deep all day. This picture was taken before the event officially started! Dan Birchall of the IfA demonstrating the "cool" properties of cryogenic gases. We don't yet know whether the visitors or he was having the most fun this day. Visiting astronomer Peter Jedicke helped Gary in the NASA Solar System Ambassador booth. Here he is talking about the Cassini-Huygens, Mars Exploration Rover and Deep Impact missions with some youngsters.
