Hawaiian Family AfFair 2008
March 8, 2008 • UH Hilo Campus Center Plaza

The seventeenth annual Hawaiian Family AfFair was held under sunny skies on the University of Hawaii at Hilo Campus Center Plaza. The Institute for Astronomy (IfA) was among dozens of participants that offered food, arts and crafts, cultural activites and information. The IfA presented a display panel of astronomical images and posters of the
Mauna Kea ohana (group photo of many of the staff
of Mauna Kea observatories), flyers for upcoming events and a button making activity for the kids. Children were invited to color in one of several designs or create a design of their own, then have them pressed into a button with a mylar coating that they can wear. Many thanks to MKSS Manager Ron Koehler (who found and purchased the button maker), SEPO Assistant Kenyan Beals for his ideas and University Astrophysics Club members Sarah Stoebner, Heather Kaluna, Justin Goo, Hiroko Komiyama, Tony Ridenour and Jason Matz who helped us during the day.
