Gary Fujihara and Kenyan Beals (IfA Science Education and Public Outreach) did a book reading and show-and-tell at the Hilo Public Library "Be A Reading Star" program on Thursday, June 9. "Pieces of Another World" by Mara Rockliff was read aloud to a group of 35 youngsters and some parents, before an overview of meteors and the pieces of another world that created them. Some sample specimens of meteorites were displayed on a table for everyone to see and touch, while questions about them were answered. After the event, the book was donated to the Hilo Public Library, and a free authentic meteorite sample was given to each person in attendance. This was not our typical outreach event venue, and was a great way to impact a different demographic than we usually see. May thanks to Moses for the event promotions and all of his assistance, and hope to be back again in the future.
