Education and the LCOGT Global Network
Wayne Rosing, Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network

The LCOGT network of 2, 1 and 0.4 meter telescopes will provide a totally new global scale resource for learners of all ages to experience how contemporary scientists use resources in a remote but on-line fashion.

The goal for educational use of the LCOGT network is to provide learners with capable tools, interesting objects to observe and measure, capable tools to support analysis, and peer based collaborative support. The end goals for learners are to experience the thrill of both doing and contributing to real science, to sharpen critical thinking skills, and to demystify technology and reinforce the notion of a measurement and data driven world view.

Wayne Rosing's training has been in physics and astronomy. He is a computer engineer by vocation, and has been doing optical design and instrument engineering since high school. His career has spanned engineering leadership roles at Apple Computer, Sun Microsystems, and most recently was Sr. VP Engineering at Google from 2000 through 2005. In 2005, he founded what is known as ‘Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network, Inc.’ in Goleta, CA, which is currently developing 1.0 & 0.4m telescopes to be placed in various locations around the world. .
