The Birth of Stars
Fully Cooked After Just One Million Years
Chris Davis, Joint Astronomy Centre

Look skyward on any cloudless night in Hilo and you'll see a vast canvas of stars splashed across the heavens. There really are millions of them up there. But have you ever wondered where they all come from? With stunning images from HST, the Spitzer Space Telescope and observatories situated across the globe, I will unravel the dynamical processes associated with stellar birth - from their origins in mysterious dark clouds, to their effervescent birth in beautiful infrared nebulae. It takes just one million years to produce a star - and it really is a sight to see!
